Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Staub cast iron skillet will be a coveted pan I have been wanting this pan for a long time now. Finally spent the money to make an investment as we are all cooking more and wanted to take it up a notch. I read that making bacon as the first cook is a great way to break in the pan. I did and it was great! I read a great deal about keeping it clean properly. No SOAP, use coarse salt and a sponge. It worked well. Another tip I read was to heat it up after it has been cleaned to make sure its completely dry, after it cools to put it away. The 10 inch is plenty big enough. Its really heavy and the grab on the other side of handle is super necessary.

Perfect for browning meat, great for sauteing mixed vegetables and meat, works in frying eggs and fish, can also be used for stir frying vegetables and fried rice pan. Skillets with double handle have for more control when transferring delicious dish. That spout is so useful to keep those juice in the right place. Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pan makes the BEST eggs EVER! I bought this pan to complement other Staub pieces I have and the first thing I made was some scrambled eggs on an induction burner. I eat eggs almost everyday and can say that my scrambles eggs came out way better using this fry pan vs a stainless steel pan from a leading brand on induction where the eggs come out a strange texture. With the staub, i just put a small bit of olive oil in the pan as it was heating up, then added my egg mixture, used a silicone spatula to lift the eggs as they were cooking and when the got to an almost done / wet stage i flipped them and then turned off the pan. Hands down, best eggs Ive ever had and i didn't do anything different than I normally do using other pans. Also the clean up was very easy. Just let pan cool off. fill pan with sudsy water and soak, then use a non abrasive (blue) stone and the pan came out like new.

I always thought that cast iron took a lot of work to take care of, but after getting this pan and using it, it’s now a staple in my cooking. I love this pan, it does an amazing job of searing, roasting, and really releases food easily, almost as if it’s a nonstick. Since it’s enameled, I don’t have to season it, making it super easy to clean! I love the Graphite color, it’s beautiful with the black enamel. I also love that it has a pour spouts so I can pour sauce, grease out of the pan much easier.

This pan heats very evenly (determined by flour test), retains heat incredibly well, sears evenly and releases well even with no micro-seasoning layer, is easy to clean, and is an all-around joy to use. The basil color is absolutely stunning and is very true-to-photo. The bottom is very smooth which makes it move around a bit on the burner, just hold the handle with an oven mitt to prevent the slipping around. I only want to use this line of products in my kitchen from now on! With that, there is a caveat: it took a long while to process my order and ship it out. 17 days to be precise. It only took 1 day to ship since I am very close to the origin of shipping, however, it could take up to 5-7 business days on top on that with standard shipping. Did I think I would have to wait that long to use the pan? Definitely not. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely.

Where is the 10" measured for the Stuab fry pans? Top, bottom, interior cooking surface?

Is there a lid available for this pan?

I saw on a set of three that the lid on the 5.5 cocette could be used with the 10 inch frying pan. In checking the specifications they have the same  top diameter. This measurement also held for the 7 quart and the 11 inch pan and the 9 quart and the 12 inch frying pan. Haven’t tried it myself!

You can use this on a grill up to 500°F, though it is intended for use on the stove top and/or in the oven.

Is this product good for cooking eggs? Grill cheese? Is it difficult to clean?

This item is great for cooking anything, including eggs and grilled cheese. Just be sure to use a sufficient amount of cooking fat as this pan is not nonstick. Cast iron is porous by nature. How do we clean the inside black surface of the skillet on regular basis? How can I remove the glassy looking surface around inner edges of skillet which I suspect resulted from using an inadequate bristle?

The surface can be cleaned with hot water and soap. If you have a stubborn stain, you can boil some water and add baking soda, or use a non-abrasive cleaner like Bar Keepers Friend. We do not recommend using a stiff or abrasive brush. Although the enamel is very durable, it is still glass based and can scratch. The enamel around the rim will remain rough. This is not raw cat iron, but is not as polished because of the way the pans are fired in the kiln. They are fired rim down, it is not uncommon for this to appear rough or for divots to appear where it sat on a rack.

I am confused watching videos on how to care for my Staub Cast Iron 10" Fry Pan – Cherry. Can we use soap for cleaning or not? Do we have to season after every use? Do we have to dry it on oven top after every wash? What type of brush can I use?

These pans are enameled and do not need to be treated like a raw cast iron pan. You can absolutely use soap (they are even dishwasher safe). Please do not attempt to season the pan, this will just create a layer of burnt oil on top of the enamel. The enamel completely seals the cast iron, no raw metal is exposed, and therefore no season is necessary. The Black Matte interior can sometimes resemble raw cast iron, though this is a specially formulated, textured enamel. Towel drying is absolutely fine, no need to dry the piece on the stove top or in the oven. Our enamel is very durable, however it is still glass-based and can scratch if mishandled. Therefore, we do not recommend using an abrasive brush. Soap, hot water, and a sponge should be sufficient. If there are very tough spots, water and baking soda, or a cleaner such as Bar Keepers Friend will work.
