This versitale pot is perfect for sauces, stews, braising and soups as well as whole chicken dishes such as coq Au Vin. Ample for large family meals. This pot is everything you would expect from a Staub cast iron. Exceptional craftsmanship and quality. The innovative black matte interior provides exceptional heat distribution and retention. Will also release foods easily. This pan will stay a consistent temperature throughout the cooking time. The creative dimpled interior of the lid is designed to help with continuous moisture flow. Great stove to oven to table pot. Perfect for family meals and entertaining.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They had me at the chicken knob! Not really but it’s a whimsical addition to a beautiful pot. An oval cocotte is a very versatile shape for cooking not only soups, stews and chili’s but whole chickens and roasts fit in this shape as well. Staub cast iron is surrounded by 3 layers on enamel on the interior and 3 layers of a beautiful glaze on the exterior. No need to season these pots and they can even go in the dishwasher if necessary. Interior is slightly textured for a perfect brown or sear and easy release. The lids have continuous basting beads for a consistently moist environment during cooking. No wonder restaurants prefer to cook in Staub. This pot will not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coq au vin This is the perfect dutch oven for roasting chicken, duck. The oval shape really comes in handy for doing large pieces of meat, and the lid is nice and heavy, really helps prevent heat and moisture from escaping, creating an amazing meal every time in the coq au vin. Love the rooster knob on top too, just an extra accent to this French cuisine inspired piece. Also with the enameling being black and not white on the inside, it really looks great with the French blue color on the outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from French blue Staub Oval shape is great for soups, chili and sauces on the stovetop, but also roasting and in the oven. The black textured enamel interior browns and caramelizes well. Heats up evenly so even the oval shape on a round burner heats up perfectly. The self basting spikes on the inside of the lid keeps precious moisture and flavor in the pot. Beautiful color. It looks great on my stovetop even when it's not is use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Very French Oval cocotte traditionally used for braising chicken. Spikes on underside of lid provide continuous self-basting for moist and tender results. The black enameled interior is optimal for braising and caramelization. Also turns out an excellent roast pork loin and any number of recipes left to slow cook on the stove top. Heat retention makes for great oven to table serving, while keeping contents warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pan shouts "roast a chicken." The coq qu vin is made from cast iron and has an interior black matte finish with helps product amazing cooking results. It has self-basting spikes on the interior of the lid which collect and return all moisture back into dish creating flavorful meals. The pan can be used in temperatures up to 500F, on all cooking surfaces.
