Great pot ever!!
4-q round black round mat is my first Staub and I am so happy to write a review.
First of all, the feature is awesome. It looks very modern with my new kitchen.
Second, it works excellently.
I usually use this pot for making stew and soup.
It boils very fast and keep the moisture from ingredients.
Eventually, I add less water than I have usual.
It is perfect size for dinner for 4.
It is easy to clean, once I clean it with warm water and dry it through heat.
Last thing is good for oven boiling.
Sizzling chickens and put it right into oven and I get perfect chicken dinner.
After this purchase, I got a fry pan and a wok.
They are also my favorite.

Go with LeCruset, This is Garbage...
This item was defective, and was unable to contact customer support via phone or online form. I am very disappointed in my Staub coccette, and would like a refund.
1) The lid handle screw was definitely bent, so the handle wouldn't sit center even after trying to adjust it. It looks sloppy and ruins the balance of the lid when picked up.
2) The enamel around the handles is so thin, I can see down to primer, and it gets much darker than the rest of the pot when hot. It looks like a completely different color from the lid when hot.
3) There is something wrong with the outer finish as it turned black on first use.

After much research, I was very excited to try this product. I purchased the black matte, 4 quart cocotte on 11-28-2016. It arrived with chips along the rim of both the lid & the pot. First replacement arrived 1 week later - same issue. Second replacement 10 days later - same result. Today, I received my FOURTH pot and it's even worse. It will be shipped back on Tuesday. If that's Staub's version of "excellent quality," I'd hate to see what they consider to be sub par. It's very disappointing to see poor workmanship being called flawless.

I use this 4qt round cocotte mostly for baking artisan bread. With the heat tolerance and even cooking this makes a fabulous loaf of bread. It's also great for smaller portions of stews and chili as well. Staub cast iron is surrounded by 3 layers on enamel on the interior and 3 layers of a beautiful glaze on the exterior. No need to season these pots and they can even go in the dishwasher if necessary. Interior is slightly textured for a perfect brown or sear and easy release. The lids have continuous basting beads for a consistently moist environment during cooking. No wonder restaurants prefer to cook in Staub. This pot will not disappoint.

I love it!
I had wanted a Staub cocotte for a long time, and bought a beautiful grenadine colored one during their sale last November. It is every bit as great as I expected. I've cooked stews, cobblers, roasts, chickens, soups. If anything sticks (and so far only peach cobbler have done so), I let it soak for a little while and it washes right out, no scrubbing or hard work involved. I only wish I had bought it sooner.

Gorgeous color, gorgeous pot. This 4qt cast iron Cocotte is the perfect size for cooking small quanities with perfect results that you can only get from cast iron. I use this pot at least once a month to bake artisan loaves of bread. The bread comes out with a perfect crispy crust and soft airy inside. Beautiful Cocotte
I already own the 7qt oval cocotte and the 3.5qt braising pan and absolutely love them. I just couldn't pass up the amazing deal I got for this round cocotte during the Xmas sale. I made a pot roast in it and it actually cooked up much faster than I had anticipated as my usual recipe was previously made in a non-Staub dutch oven. The self-braising lid makes all the difference in the world. I purchased it in the bright white color and was really nervous about staining; however, just a little bit of cast iron enamel cleaner on it took care of it right away and it looks brand new after each wash. I cannot recommend this enough.

When they Designed this One They Broke the Mold
They literally broke the mold when they made these! I love that each piece is unique and not 100% like any other. Sand molds are used to pour the hot cast iron into and then broken when cooled. So you get a unique piece that on one else has. The cocottes are so versatile and can be used for countless meal preps, even baking bread. The matte black is my favorite color of all. I think that it is elegant and can be mixed and matched with other staub pieces of different color easily. These are easy to clean, fabulous at browning, searing, sautéing and frying, and I love the self-basting lids which produce moist results every time.

Do you need to season this particular Dutch oven? I read the directions in the pamphlet as well as some reviews online but I am getting mixed answers.
There is no need to season our products. However, the black matte enamel surface is not nonstick.
Using a little oil will prevent most sticking, yet there still may be sticking which helps to brown, braise and reduce your meals better.
