Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must! Purchased this sharpening steel to bring the life back to my cutlery. Just started using after watching and wondering what it actually does. Watched numerous videos and learned the sharpener basically brings the edge back to the center and straightens it. It corrects the edge without shaving much off. I'm finding it doesn't really sharpen the knife, but if done properly, the knife seems sharper because it's in the correct position. Still practicing my form, but this steel is comfortable, easy to hold, and just the right length for a beginner like me. Didn't realize what I've been missing all these years.

Honing maintains the edge by realigning the invisible burrs on the edge of the blade. Many times I thought my knives were dull, but thy just needed honing. Bought this honing steel to maintain the edge of my German knives upon the instructors recommendation. Very easy to use. The handle has a comfortable grip, and the steel is just the right height to get the job done and not too intimidating. First thing I did when I got it was the hone all my dull knives. Now they are sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traditional Edge Maintenance This is how you keep your knives sharp, plain and simple. Every knife will dull over time because they blade ever so slightly bends each time you use it. This honing steel will realign the blade to cut almost like new. It's simple to use; it's about setting your edge angle (15 degree), apply a lot of pressure (you're trying to move metal) and equal passes on both sides of your knife. (check out the website for a video demonstration.) All it takes is a little practice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for prolonging knife sharpness I never knew that the long pole shaped thing that comes in a knife block is there to make the blade of my knives stay sharper longer! This honing steel was is great because the points of the plastic handle are made so that you hold your knife at the correct angle to make sure you are holding it correctly. If you never have used one, give this one a try!

Each time you use your knives the fine edge bends and goes out of alignment ever so slightly. In between uses just hone your blade with a sharpening steel and you won't believe the difference! This keeps your knife performing its best between annual sharpening.

It does not necessarily take steel off and sharpen, but it actually keeps the microscopic teeth on the edge straight. Straight teeth=a sharp knife. It's a priceless tool.

Regular honing and sharpening makes cutting easier and safer, and extends the life the knife. Hone every time you pull your knife out and you will be pleased with the results.

Is this hone appropriate for the Zwilling Pro series?

The length of product shows as 9.06 inches. Does this include the handle? I am of the understanding that the "9" in the title refers to the length of the steel itself. Am I mistaken?
