Both the authentic, thin, Japanese profile blade and the wood handle are crafted from the most precious materials, which shape their striking appearance. More than meets the eye, the potent core of SG2 micro-carbide powder steel is protected by 100 layers of steel, for an exceptionally sharp and long-lasting edge that is highly corrosion resistant. MIYABI's innovative, ice-hardening process locks in the long-lasting sharpness of the CRYODUR blades. Beneath its beautiful exterior, the flower Damascus pattern provides added durability. Sharpening is done using the traditional, three-step Honbazuke method.
The scalpel-like blade is complemented by an equally striking Karelian (Masur) Birch handle. A prized material for knife handles, Karelian Birch is also the only wood ever used in a Faberge egg. Exquisite and ergonomic, MIYABI Birchwood knives feel as good as they look. Handcrafted in Seki, Japan.

WOWThis block set is amazing. The Birchwood handles are stunning, and look great in my all white super modern kitchen. The design on each blade is truly a work of art, almost didn't want to use them.....but I do!
They are extremely sharp because of the Asian angle, as well as the SG2 steel. Easy to sharpen and maintain, but hand wash and dry. Love the fact that the set includes a bread knife, which I show off at dinner parties all the time. The all stainless kitchen shears are not the usual non impressive ones that you usually find in a block set.
This set is not only a work of art, but a wonderful addition to my kitchen.

These knives = freedom & desireThe birch handle knife set is absolutely gorgeous in the kitchen, fabulous feel in the hand, and superior performance to any knife set I’ve ever used in my 40+ years of passionate cooking.
It’s like the new car feel that doesn’t wear off. They make me want to cook! They’re so excellent to use that I’m more creative with the meals I prepare, as well as prepping faster and presentation off the charts.
From paper thin cucumber & onion slices to a perfectly diced sweet potato and gliding right through a London broil… perfection!
You won’t be disappointed with how these knives turn up the heat in your kitchen skills!

Great Knife Set!This knife set if beautiful and sharp! It's made a huge difference in our kitchen. These things cut through vegetables like butter. We used to have to put in much more elbow grease to cut through things with our old knife set and decided to try something with better quality and this set has not disappointed! We love that this set includes a sharpening tool which we find super useful. This set is also very beautiful with its birchwood handles and artistic blade. Overall, we are very satisfied with this knife set. We highly recommend this knife set to anyone looking for beauty and superb quality.

These are the best knifes I’ve ever usedJust a home cook here, but I love a good set of sharp knifes that do the cutting for me instead of strength. These knifes are beautiful, share and most importantly feel safe but sturdy.

Best knives I ever usedHandle is very comfortable, the blade has a beautiful damascus pattern and is extremely sharp. I can't speak on edge retention because I haven't used it enough yet, but SG2 steel is supposed to have some of the best edge retention out there.
These knives are japanese style, so they are sharper than western knives, but have thinner steel, so they are a bit more fragile. If you handle them with care they will treat you well.
I just wish miyabi sold more products for caring for the wood handle. Birchwood is a great handle wood but it stains easily and needs to be treated to avoid absorbing food liquids. A good cutting board oil or wax goes a long way in making these types of knife last longer.

I fully expect to enjoy this set for a lifetimeI fell in love with this Miyabi line the first time I picked one up. Miyabi Birchwood is a beautifully hand-crafted and made of the one of the best steels for kitchen knives. The smooth birchwood handle fits my hand perfectly; and the inset emblem is an elegant touch. But the part I really love is the blade. The exquisite flower patterned blades belie their hardness, their ability to keep an edge, their gleam. This set has all the basics. I've added to it, but could have been happy with this set by itself. Even the honing rod is is beautiful. What a joy. (I even like the scissors.)
