Every day use will not only dull blades but they will also get out of straight edge alignment. After a little practice learning to use a sharpening steel will be one of the best things you've ever done because you will realize how simple it is to keep your knives their sharpest and their performance will impress you every time. This steel is great because it is hard enough to sharpen my Japanese knives as well as my German knives.

A honing steel will help keep your knife cutting well between sharpenings. This will do the job but if you want to be really impressed, try the ceramic or even better the tungsten steel rods, worth the upgrade in price to keep your Japanese knife in tip top shape.

Keeps my knives sharp
It has taken a little practice and an educational video, but I know how to use this steel and keep my knives sharp. Use of the steel is a simple process, I'm bringing the blade back to a point. If you use this once a week or whenever your knife doesn't feel sharp, then you will have sharp knives for a long time. This steel sharpens my Japanese knives as well as my German knives.

This is one of the best sharpening steels in the market place. It is made out of Tungsten steel which is one of the strongest metals made. It is perfect to keep Miyabi knives sharp.
There is a unique magnetic feature that helps collects small metal particles that are removed from knife blade when honing. Handle is comfortable even when pressure is applied.
