Great serrated prepThis a great serrated prep knife created in conjunction with Chris Kimball. The Classic is a great and durable knife collection, the high carbon stainless steel holds up really well, very durable and not prone to tarnishing. I like that the prep is serrated, a great all purpose knife, it’s a smaller blade profile than a chef, but can still be used to chop, slice produce, veggies, meat. With it being serrated, it’s also great for slicing small bread rolls, citrus, tomatoes; overall a great knife to have in your kitchen.

Not too shabby! This knife is quite sharp right out of the box. I'm more accustomed to a heavier 8" chefs knife, so the smaller and lighter knife will take some getting used to. The first thing I used my new 5.5" prep knife on was a sweet onion. I was unable to slice through the onion as I normally would. Instead, I had to saw through the onion and it was a bit unwieldy with the thin blade. Chopping and dicing the onion wasn't too enjoyable with this knife either. Next I I sliced and diced a fresh 3 × 6 tomato and it was simply wonderful. For my final test I sliced a lime into wedges and again it was a joy to use. So, this certainly will not be replacing my chef knife. It will, however, be a nice addition to my collection and I'll probably use it every day at work and often at home.

Compact Chef's knifeWhen we want a quality knife we go first to Zwilling/JA Henkels. First bought one in Germany in the 70's.
This current knife is a perfect size for my wife to use in a variety of kitchen jobs. Lives up to the excellence that we have come to expect from this company.
Be aware that the "fine edge" is actually a serrated edge. Kinda surprised us when we got it as we thought it would be a straight edge as on all the other knives we have bought from the company.

Excellent small prep knifeGreat for all your cutting needs. Ideal for fruits and vegetables, but able to cut up meat as needed. The serrated edge is designed to saw through crusty breads, tough skinned (or even soft skinned) tomatoes without destroying the delicate soft interiors. This line of knives is made by forging high quality German steel. They will hold their edge over time giving you years and years of enjoyment - and delicious meals.

Quality serrated knife shape and lengthAfter searching dozens of reviews for a serrated knife, I chose the Henckels because it was 5.5 inches instead of 5 and I liked the shape of the blade and handle. It has been working great so far - especially for cutting skin on chicken, salmon, tomatoes, and pretty much anything in my kitchen. When my chef's knife isn't clean or I am cutting something smaller, this has become my go to for cutting almost everything.

Christopher Kimball does it AgainThis serrated prep knife does SO MUCH in the kitchen! It's comparable to a small chef knife, but has a serrated blade. That's handy and necessary for cutting foods with hard exteriors, soft interiors...think breads, tomatoes, citrus, even stringy meats. It's forged, made of German stainless steel in Spain, another country known for making great cutlery. A great addition to any kitchen.

Cutlery By KimballThis prep knife is designed in collaboration with Christopher Kimball of Milk Street fame. The serrated edge is good for tomatoes, citrus fruit, and other items with a firm exterior but soft inside. The wide heel of blade also allows use on a cutting board in place of a larger chef's knife. Forged from German stainless steel, with a comfortable handle for all your medium cutting tasks.
I’m trying to determine if this will fit in an open slot in my knife block. What Is the smallest size slot this knife will fit in? Maybe you can post all the dimensions?
