Earth Day Edition of ZWILLING PRO Knives Sets New Standards

To mark Earth Day on 22 April 2024, we released a limited special edition of the ZWILLING PRO series, crafted from low-CO₂ Circle Green steel. This exclusive five-piece set features a unique Earth Day engraving and the RC (Reduced Carbon) stamp – a visible symbol of progress in knife manufacturing. The handles are made from FSC®-certified kotibé wood, a highly durable hardwood sourced from sustainable forestry. 

This launch was not only a symbolic milestone, but also a test run for the market introduction of our new steel. The knives were available in Europe and Canada and sold out in no time. Owing to the strong demand and positive feedback, we are planning to reissue the Earth Day Edition in the future.

BALLARINI LEDRO Pans – Quality that Saves Resources

As part of the ZWILLING Group, BALLARINI also prioritises ecological principles at its site in Rivarolo, Italy. The LEDRO pan series is a prime example: the pan body is made from 100% recycled aluminium, significantly reducing the use of primary raw materials. 

The pans feature a PFAS-free ceramic non-stick coating that is exceptionally durable. The handles are made from 37% bio-based materials, helping to cut down on fossil resources. The LEDRO series thus meets the needs of consumers seeking to use natural resources responsibly, without compromising on longevity or performance.  

STAUB La Cocotte: Where Durability Meets Sustainability

STAUB cocottes have stood for robustness and longevity for decades. Made from high-quality cast iron, these casseroles now contain an ever-increasing proportion of recycled material. This helps to conserve primary resources and reduces both energy consumption and CO₂ emissions during production. 

The packaging also follows clear environmental principles: instead of coloured, coated cardboard, we now use uncoloured, uncoated cartons – made from up to 80% recycled paper and fully recyclable. We have also almost halved ink usage. By combining premium quality, long-lasting materials and resource-saving packaging, STAUB casseroles set new standards – now and in the future.  

Cutlery Packaging Reimagined: Minimal Use of Plastics

Our cutlery packaging now uses almost no plastic. Instead of heavy boxes with plastic coatings and inserts, we use almost exclusively paper and cardboard. The tray is made from card derived from bamboo, sugar cane or poplar fibres. Where cutlery pieces were once individually wrapped in polybags, they are now rolled in tissue paper. 

Initially, the outer paper band proved insufficient to protect against damage during transport and in retail. As a result, we have opted for a compromise: a wafer-thin film now wraps the box. It accounts for less than 1% of the packaging weight, is easy to remove and recycle. This saves around 60 tonnes of plastic per year while keeping the product safely protected. Simply Better Packaging – Made in Solingen

In recent years, we have almost completely switched the packaging of our Solingen-made knife series – including ZWILLING PRO, GOURMET, FOUR STAR and ALLSTAR – to materials from renewable resources. Folding box, inlay and hanger are all made from paper-based components and are easy to recycle. Only a small polyethylene cap is used to protect the delicate knife tip during transport and to minimise the risk of injury when unpacking. 

Overall, we have significantly reduced plastic use across the entire packaging line. For example, by changing the packaging of our best-selling FOUR STAR chef’s knife in 2024, we saved around 1.9 tonnes of plastic, thereby helping to reduce the use of fossil resources and avoid plastic waste.
