La Cocotte from STAUB

Cast iron cookware has been used for many centuries, among other reasons, for its excellent energy efficiency. The material is known for its even heat conduction and retention, which means that fried dishes develop many roasting aromas. Chilled food also benefits from the temperature retention properties, as it stays cool for several hours and can be served without any problem at garden parties.

With its flat lid, the STAUB cocotte closes tightly. Inside, the special drip structure ensures effective liquid distribution across the lid.

Protective enamel coating

The inside of the cocotte is coated with a matt black enamel with a rough structure. It is scratch-resistant and acid-resistant and therefore ensures a long service life for the cookware.

Traditional craftsmanship

It requires 25 pairs of hands and a minimum of 100 different production steps to make a single cocotte. Lastly, each article is tested according to a strict catalogue of quality criteria.

It was my first Staub cocette purchase and will be the last because their manufacturing standards are not consistent. To make things worse, Zwilling puts the expense on the wronged customer to ship a heavy cast iron pot back to them. No refunds only will replace the product with an equivalent or whatever is available.

I spoke to a friend who owned some le Creuset -- and told her, I might get one for myself. Then she mentioned STAUB. I did my research and splurged on one -- and I DID NOT REGRET it! The flavour of the meat and how tender they were cooked and even the veggies -- I have found my joy back in my kitchen. My hubby was delighted!

I think when spending nearly $300 on a product customers should have a reasonable expectation that items arrive in good condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A happy impulse buy I was set to buy a different brand of cast iron but Staub caught my attention after I saw a famous chef use the product. I researched for the best cast iron and I found that I like the matte interior of Staub which will probably look better in the long run compared to other brands. I think the 3.8 L will be just right for my small family. When the product arrived, I was just amazed at how sturdy and beautiful it looks. I still have to use it a few more times before I can say anything about its performance. My only complain is that the box was badly damaged. It was also not sealed in the box but I think it’s the fault of the store I brought it from. I plan to buy more Staub products in the future!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful color change with temperature I couldn't be happier with this smaller casserole to supplement the larger one which I had bought locally. An interesting feature of the cherry enamel is that it changes color with temperature. (Those who work in art glass will be familiar with this effect.) And we're not talking about pyrometer temperatures either! It's actually useful within the range used for cooking. A hot cherry enamelled Cocotte will have a dull liverish appearance in a hot oven, more so if very hot. It slowly returns to its shelf color as it cools. So you can be sure that a bright cherry casserole will be safe to handle with bare hands. Wear oven mitts when picking up a dull brownish one.
