Clean the inside and outside of your toaster – the right way

Where there's toasting, there's crumbs – we tell you the best way to clean your toaster to make it safer and last longer.

Clean your toaster – it's not just a matter of looks

Slice by slice your toaster delivers for breakfast and dinner and after a while, you can see all the work it has done. But you should clean your toaster not only for aesthetic reasons. It's also safer if you regularly remove crumbs and other remnants of toasting activities. We'll tell you the best way to do that and keep your toaster clean inside and out.

Watch out: When you should clean your toaster

Dirt, rattles and smells – there are warning signs to clean your toaster again. On the outside, dirt shows up on the housing: Fingerprints, splashes and stains are usually only external impairments, but they do not affect the operation of the toaster. Dirt on the inside can be a different story, and you can tell when your toaster could use an interior cleaning by rattling noises and smells.

Clean the outside of your toaster

Your ZWILLING ENFINIGY toaster is a real gem. Of course, traces of use show, but this is also quite normal and occurs with all kitchen appliances:

  • Very important: Make sure to unplug your toaster before starting the cleaning process.
  • From the usual dirt, you can clean your toaster by using a damp kitchen towel – with a little dishwashing liquid, if necessary. This will reliably remove light soiling and fingerprints.
  • Important: Please do not use abrasive liquids or similar aggressive cleaning agents to clean your toaster, as these can attack the surface.
  • Also important: Your cleaning cloth should not be too wet, especially if you reach the area of the toast slots when cleaning the housing. The inside of the toaster should not come into contact with moisture to avoid dangerous short circuits and damage to the device.
What do I need to clean my toaster from?

And there can be a lot, especially if you like to use your toaster not only for bread but also other goodies. This is because special meat snacks or waffles that are suitable for toasters can also be heated in the toaster and, of course, leave crumbs or even grease deposits and the like. All this can affect the operation of the toaster and perhaps even catch fire. Therefore, it is tremendously important to clean the toaster regularly.

Clean the toaster – the crumb tray

You shouldn't forget about the crumb tray either. A very simple cleaning step that does not take a minute. ZWILLING ENFINIGY toasters are all equipped with a drawer that catches most of the crumbs for you during operation, and you can simply pull it out and empty it.

Tip: If the crumb tray also has hard-to-remove debris on it – grease, for example – you can remove it with a kitchen scraper or clean the crumb tray with warm water and dish soap.

Toaster smells burnt?

If your toaster smells burnt, cleaning the crumb tray is certainly a good countermeasure. However, even it may not catch everything that toasts, waffles, or small toaster-size meat snacks leave inside the unit. Here's what you can do about that:

  • Turn the toaster upside down and carefully dump it out over a large plate or household towel.
  • This way, you can effectively get most of the crumbs that have settled in various corners or even in the heating elements out of the toaster.
  • Dispose of the leftovers and do the listening test: If you don't hear any rustling now, the burnt smell of the toaster should also dissipate in the future.

Fire hazard from crispbread: On a related note, please do not toast crispbread in the toaster, it is so dry that it can catch fire in the toaster after after being in the toaster for a short amount of time.

Toasters are literally easy to clean. Apply our cleaning tips at regular intervals – preferably before odor develops – and enjoy the many crispy delicacies from your ZWILLING ENFINIGY toaster.
