These full of flavour meat-free Sausage Rolls make for a delicious savoury treat for the celebrations over Jubilee weekend. Vegetarian sausage meat is combined with tangy caramelised onions, rosemary and puff pastry and cooked in our FRESH & SAVE Gratin Dish. If there are any leftovers, you can keep these Vegetarian Sausage Rolls fresh for up to five times longer by keeping them in the ZWILLING FRESH & SAVE Gratin Dish which can be vacuum sealed.

Ingredients

For the Caramelised Onions

  • 2 Red Onions (sliced)
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

 

  • 8 Vegetarian Sausages
  • -1 Sheet of Puff Pastry
  • 1-2 Tbsp Dried Rosemary
  • Egg
  • Fresh Rosemary
     

Method

1. Start by making the caramelised onions. Heat the oil in a pan over a low heat. Add the onions with a pinch of salt, brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and cook slowly for 20-30 minutes. Stir regularly until they become soft and sticky.

2. Pre-heat the oven at 180°C  and line the ZWILLING FRESH & SAVE Gratin Dish with baking paper.

3. Remove the outer skin of the sausages and combine the meat in a bowl. 

4. Add the dried rosemary and 4 tbsp of homemade caramelised onion mixture, and mix until all combined.

5. Roll out the pastry sheet and cut into thirds.

6. Spoon out the sausage mixture down the centre of each pastry sheet third, then wrap the pastry over and pinch together. Repeat on the other two pastry pieces.

7. Turn the sausage rolls over and score on the top, then cut each roll into 4 equal pieces.

8. Beat an egg in a small bowl and lightly brush the tops of the sausage rolls, then sprinkle with fresh rosemary.

9. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minus until golden.

10. Leave to cool or eat warm. Any leftovers can be stored in the ZWILLING FRESH & SAVE Glass Vacuum Box to keep fresh for up to five times longer.
