Cleaning your toaster inside and out

Where there's toasting, there are crumbs – we'll teach you the best way to clean your toaster to make it safer and last longer.

Clean your toaster – it's not just a matter of appearance

Your toaster delivers slice after slice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's obvious your toaster's been working hard. But you shouldn't just clean your toaster for aesthetic reasons. It's safer if you regularly remove crumbs and other bits of food. We'll tell you the best way to do this and keep your toaster clean inside and out.

When you should clean your toaster.

Crumb buildup is the most common warning sign that you should clean your toaster. On the outside, dirt shows up as fingerprints, splashes, and stains. They are usually only external marks that do not affect the toaster's functionality. Crumbs on the inside can be a different story.

Clean the outside of your toaster

Here's how to make your toaster look like new again:

  • Very important: Unplug your toaster before starting the cleaning process.
  • You can clean everyday dirt from the exterior of your toaster by using a damp kitchen towel with a bit of dishwashing soap, if necessary. This will remove traces of dirt and fingerprints.
  • Important: please do not use abrasive creams or similar harsh cleaning agents, as they can corrode/damage the surface
  • Also important: Your cleaning cloth should not be too wet, especially if you reach into the toast slots while cleaning the appliance. The inside of the toaster should not come into contact with moisture to avoid short-circuiting and damage to the toaster.
What do I need to clean out of my toaster?

If you like to use your toaster for bread and other toasted foods, a few crumbs probably need to be removed. From special toaster-size meat snacks to waffles, they can all be heated in the toaster and leave behind crumbs or grease deposits. Not only can this affect the operation of the toaster, but it can even cause it to catch on fire. Therefore, it is very important to clean the toaster regularly.

Clean the toaster – the crumb tray

Don't forget to empty the crumb tray – it won't even take a minute. ZWILLING Enfinigy toasters are equipped with a drawer that catches most of the crumbs while operating. Simply pull it out and empty it.

Tip: If hard-to-remove bits such as grease have accumulated on the crumb tray, you can remove it with a kitchen scraper or clean the crumb tray with warm water and dishwashing soap.

Toaster smells burnt?

Cleaning the crumb tray is a great first step if your toaster smells burnt. However, it may not catch everything that gets toasted inside the appliance. Here's what you can do about that:

  • Turn the toaster upside down and carefully dump it out over a large plate or household towel. This allows you to get most of the crumbs out of the toaster, including from the heating elements.
  • Dispose of the leftover bits and do the listening test: If you don't hear any noise inside the toaster, the burnt smell should dissipate.

Toasters are very easy to clean. Use our cleaning tips at regular intervals- preferably before crumb buildup develops – and enjoy perfectly browned toast with your ZWILLING Enfinigy toaster.
