Clean your kettle – clear, hot water
Others cook with just water – you with ENFINIGY. But you still need to clean your kettle every now and then. We tell you how, with what and why.
Clean the water boiler – one cause, many effects
The why of kettle cleaning is multifaceted. There are definitely several good reasons why you should descale the kettle and clean it from the traces of everyday use. Water-related lime deposits on the inner walls, but especially on the bottom of the kettle are quite normal, but also bring some side effects:
- Lime deposits may leave white streaks in the appliance.
- Limescale can change the taste of the water.
- Deposits can interfere with the operation and damage the unit.
- Energy: A calcified kettle will take significantly longer, and therefore more energy, to heat water.
But why all this? Where do the limescale deposits in the kettle come from? From the water. Lime is an entirely natural component of it, in some regions of Canada more, in others less. Lime-containing or "hard" water is not harmful, and it contains more magnesium and calcium, substances that your body can use. But your kettle does not.
If you want to know how high the lime content in your tap water is, your water company can tell you. You can also measure the water hardness with a test strip and thus conclude how often you need to descale your kettle. But even if you have "soft" water, it will contain lime.
You can prevent limescale by using a water filter in the home. The water filter removes the lime from the water. That way, much less of it will end up in the kettle, and you would then have to descale your kettle much less often.
But at what interval is it recommended to clean the kettle? Similar to the coffee maker, regular descaling is always a good idea, especially when there are visible lime deposits in the device. Depending on the frequency and intensity of use, these will show up in your kettle sooner or later. But now you know what you can do about it.
With this in mind, we hope you enjoy boiling water with ZWILLING ENFINIGY!
