Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mirror finish. Razor sharp. If I am going to invest the time to sharpen my goods knives by hand, then I will take the extra few minutes to finish the work properly. The leather stropping block finishes the edge and smooths off residual micro-abrasions for can drag a knife ever so slightly. Go all in if you're going to do it. This leather is clean of any compound and comes mounted on a block so you don't have to. Replacement leathers are available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great finishing tool for optimal sharpness Using Kramer whetstones is a great way to bring back that factory edge on your German and Japanese knives. With the leather stropping block, this is a great finishing tool that will bring out that optimal sharpness you expect to have from your Kramer Damascus or Carbon knives and helps make the edge nice and perfect for use again on your knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The final touch on your sharpening A strop is a smooth surface that is used after the finest grade sharpening stone and is the third and final stage of sharpening your knives. It polishes the knife edge and works off an burr left behind from the sharpening stones. This will reveal the smoothest sharpest edge on your knife.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Zwilling Employee A stropping block is one of the very last steps of knife sharpening. The stropping leather glides away any loose fragments of metal removed during sharpening, much like buffing, it a clean and sharp edge.

Is there a layer of plastic on the leather? I took off the tape and glued it on to the block but my strop has more of a navy blue color? Also I had difficulties loading it with green compound.

Asked by: Jackie12
This block is hardwood and leather. There is no plastic.

Does it do any fine sharpening like a strop with compound? And what is the grit? I want to use it To sharpen (not strop) my stright razor. If it doesn’t sharpen, can i still at least use it to strop my stright razor every time before i shave?

Asked by: dutyman
This item is for stropping only. For sharpening, you will need to use a stone. We have many options, from coarse to very fine, available here: https://www.zwilling.com/us/search/?q=Sharpening+Stone&lang=en_US
