I love how the weight of the knife is perfectly balanced, and that the bolster has the perfect placement for the pinch grip hold. I love how this chef knife has an unique blade shape in that it’s curved more than traditional German knives and that way I can rock, slice and chop with this knife super easily. It feels solid and with the ice hardening and forging aspects of this knife, it’s going to last for a long time. A great knife to invest in. The wide chef knife is an unique blade shape for a chef, making it almost more like a rocking santoku, wide, but still can rock well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HomeCook5 from This is a great alternative to a standard chef's knife when you are chopping harder or thicker fruits and vegetables like squash or whole watermelon, and larger pieces of meat even with bone in. Think cleaver meets santoku meets chef's knife. The broader blade makes scooping and transferring what you've cut easier. As with all knives in the Pro Series the hallmark curved bolster provides the most comfortable pinch grip which is important especially for heavier cutting tasks. The edge stays super sharp use after use and only needs to be sharpened once a year.

I like using this for butternut squash in particular. It will easily cut through soft bone . Good knife for crushing garlic and ginger. The innovation is in the design of the bolster. The rise between the handle and blade is a perfectly comfortable spot for your pinch grip. The half bolster allows for full use of the blade. Honing and sharpening is easier as well. Get this knife in your hands! You will appreciate the difference.

I liked the control grip that is ergonomic, comfortable,durable and well balanced size. This wide chef will quickly become the go-to knife for a chef's everyday tasks. This knife will cut large chunk of meat, vegetables, and even delicate big piece of fruits like Cantaloupe or watermelon. It's the most easiest to sharpen for it's half bolster, nothing gets in the way no matter what you sharpened it either stone or machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by bourbonbb from Workhorse Knife The Pro chef knife changed the way I cut my veggies. The curved bolster helps me hold the knife on the blade in a pinch grip. It makes it very comfortable especially when I have a lot of chopping to do. This wider blade is great if you have larger hands and need a little more knuckle clearance. It's also great for scooping up food. The blade is extremely sharp and holds it's edge really well. If I could only have one knife, it would definitely be an 8" chef.

Its a top of the line Zwilling German knife that created from their Special Formula Steel and its been ice hardened which means to us durability and sharpness. The knife is also forged from one piece of steel so there are no welded parts on this knife, which can be a point of stress or breakage. The blade is much wider than the traditional chefs knife so you can use it as a scraper, of course turning over the blade first.

Easily transfer items from cutting board to dish or pan with edge of blade. The curved bolster makes for a smooth transition from handle to blade providing great balance. Traditional three riveted handle for comfort and control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by M dB from Think rocking cleaver. I'm in no way experienced enough to rate a knifes quality. The five stars are for the knifes brilliant ergonomics. The Zwilling Pro 8" Wide is like a job specific garden tool. My Fathers produce box business naturally immersed me in California's pre supermarket produce industry. As a boy I was taught early on to hold the wide end of the knife between the thumb with the fore and middle fingers curled over the top of the blade. The increased control and safety became obvious in those very first minutes. This Zwilling Wide blade and angled yoke facilitate this type of grip extremely well. The idea is not too unlike using an Asian cooks cleaver but with a massive cutting edge rocker which facilitates planting the knifes tip and guillotining large portions in a single stroke. Like wide snow skis, why did the idea take so long? My only suggestion would be to dress down the somewhat sharp rear edge of the blade between the yoke and the cutting edge.

Do you make a block that holds this knife as well as a cleaver?
We do not have a block that would hold both this knife and a cleaver. How wide is this "ZWILLING Pro 8" Wide Chef's Knife", and how much wider is it compared to the regular "ZWILLING Pro 8" Chef's Knife"?
Actually, it is 2.25 inches across the widest part of the blade at the heel — both per specification above under “Dimensions” and per measurement of my own knife.

This looks like a wonderful product — I saw it on YouTube in a food video, I think — but I can't seem to get it here in Australia, and Amazon doesn't ship it here. Please help, I'd love to be able to use this knife, even as an amateur cook.

Is this knife blade of carbon steel or the softer stainless steel? The description does not reference "stainless steel."
This series (and most of our knives) are made with stainless steel, though it is stainless steel with a high carbon content. This is our proprietary steel, ZWILLING Special Formula Steel, and is tempered in a very specific manner, resulting in a hardness of 57 on the Rockwell Hardness scale. Some of our Miyabi knives are made of stainless steel and have even harder blades. The only knives we make from Carbon Steel are the Kramer Euroline Carbon Collection (see link below). These are made from straight 52100 Carbon Steel, it is not stainless and will develop a patina. These have a hardness of 61. Carbon steel is an amazing material for blades, though it is important to note that they take a little more care than a regular stainless steel blade. http://www.zwillingonline.com/eucaco.html
