BAKE BREAD IN THE COCOTTE!

Bread baked in a Staub cocotte is a revelation. The hot, humid environment created in a covered cocotte builds steam, which in turn creates a sublimely crispy crust, highlighted by a pillowy soft interior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pot ever!! 4-q round black round mat is my first Staub and I am so happy to write a review. First of all, the feature is awesome. It looks very modern with my new kitchen. Second, it works excellently. I usually use this pot for making stew and soup. It boils very fast and keep the moisture from ingredients. Eventually, I add less water than I have usual. It is perfect size for dinner for 4. It is easy to clean, once I clean it with warm water and dry it through heat. Last thing is good for oven boiling. Sizzling chickens and put it right into oven and I get perfect chicken dinner. After this purchase, I got a fry pan and a wok. They are also my favorite.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I'm on #4 After much research, I was very excited to try this product. I purchased the black matte, 4 quart cocotte on 11-28-2016. It arrived with chips along the rim of both the lid & the pot. First replacement arrived 1 week later - same issue. Second replacement 10 days later - same result. Today, I received my FOURTH pot and it's even worse. It will be shipped back on Tuesday. If that's Staub's version of "excellent quality," I'd hate to see what they consider to be sub par. It's very disappointing to see poor workmanship being called flawless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I had wanted a Staub cocotte for a long time, and bought a beautiful grenadine colored one during their sale last November. It is every bit as great as I expected. I've cooked stews, cobblers, roasts, chickens, soups. If anything sticks (and so far only peach cobbler have done so), I let it soak for a little while and it washes right out, no scrubbing or hard work involved. I only wish I had bought it sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When they Designed this One They Broke the Mold They literally broke the mold when they made these! I love that each piece is unique and not 100% like any other. Sand molds are used to pour the hot cast iron into and then broken when cooled. So you get a unique piece that on one else has. The cocottes are so versatile and can be used for countless meal preps, even baking bread. The matte black is my favorite color of all. I think that it is elegant and can be mixed and matched with other staub pieces of different color easily. These are easy to clean, fabulous at browning, searing, sautéing and frying, and I love the self-basting lids which produce moist results every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite piece of Staub at a amazing price! This cocotte is my 3rd piece of Staub cookware and it is already my favorite. At 4 quarts it is right-sized for most of my kettle needs, cooks beautifully, and looks great. I scored an "imperfect" unit on the Zwilling-Henckels clearance site for under $100 and honestly have no clue what the imperfection is. #Winning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooks like a dream! This is one of the most useful pots I own and I now use it almost daily. Everything I've cooked in it has been easy and delicious. It's also a beautiful addition to my kitchen and I leave it sitting on the stove just because it looks so nice! My only small complaint is that the knob they say is "nickel silver" has a strong gold tone that I dislike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This bright burnt orange cocotte is sure to pop in your kitchen! This nearly perfect size will generously feed 2-3 people or leave you with plenty of delicious leftovers! The exclusive self-basting lid together with the innovative enameled cast iron interior will perfectly cook/bake whatever food you put in there. It's also really easy to clean, especially if you are doing the recommended hand washing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cookware beats Le Creuset I have owned my cherry red 4 qt since 2015, and I absolutely love it. It is the most used pot in my home. Whether cooking a pot of stew or making a small pot of stock this oven is great. I had owned LC, but got rid of it after purchasing my Staub oven. Clean up is a breeze and the finish is just fantastic.

Hi!  I just ordered the black cocotte.  Are tomato-based sauces and soups ok to cook in it?  I make a lot of Italian food.....  Thank you!

Asked by: Sobxgal
You can make tomato sauces and other acidic dishes in your Staub cocotte. The enameled surface prevents the reaction that creates unwanted flavors in raw cast iron.

What is the difference between the 4 qt cherry red cocotte and the blue or burnt orange other than color and price? Big price difference!

Asked by: Bobbie60
There is no difference between the colors. Select colors or styles will go on sale from time to time.

Should the interior be seasoned before use like a cast iron skillet?

Asked by: Brian6
Enameled cast iron does not require seasoning, but many customers do choose to season to help prevent sticking and add flavor to the food.

Hello. I order to make bread with my cocotte- Can I place the Matte Black cocotte in the oven at 450 F, to preheat, while the cocotte is EMPTY? The instruction book mentions this but it's a bit confusing. Thanks

Asked by: Raf G
Many bread recipes call for preheating the cookware at high temperatures for an extended period of time. Heating the cocotte empty at high heat can damage the enamel, causing it to crack and/or flake, so we do not recommend doing this. Because our enameled cast iron has a conductive aluminum core and great heat retention, you can briefly preheat the cocotte (no longer than 10 minutes) or skip preheating all together for the same results.

Considering this beautiful red Cocotte as a Glögg pot.  Glögg is a sort of "mulled wine fruit punch" concoction with Swedish/Scandinavian origin.  Any problem making my glögg in this?  It will sit on the stovetop for several days.

Asked by: ClevelandBill
Yes, you can prepare Glögg in our Staub enameled cast iron.

Can this be used on a glass cooktop?

Asked by: Clair
Our Staub cast iron is safe for most glass cook tops. However, some appliance manufacturers do not recommend using enameled cast iron on certain models. Please confirm with your stove top manufacturer if you can use these products with your range.
