Additional Information

The resounding success of the Staub Pumpkin had us asking what other heirloom fruit or vegetable should we bring to Staub. We wanted something that could compliment the pumpkin for the collector. We scoured farmer's markets to find our muse, and after much looking we landed on the Brandywine Tomato. The Brandywine is an heirloom cultivar which bears large beautiful tomatoes that are popularly considered among the very best tasting.

The Staub cocotte is unsurpassed for slow-cooking meats and vegetables to tender perfection, and for simmering hearty stews and soups. Cast iron possesses exceptional heat-retaining qualities, so the pot heats evenly throughout. This pot also makes a handsome serving vessel at the table.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Masterful combination of form and function I absolutely love my 3-quart cast iron tomato. It is truly a functional piece of art work that I may or may not use in my cooking...it doesn't matter to me, it is absolutely beautiful. I have several pieces from Staub and love the fact that they emphasize not just good cookware, but also cookware that is pleasing to the eye with such a high level of craftsmanship. I bought one tomato as a house-warming present and the other looks beautiful on my stove top. Waiting with bated breath for their next creation...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, just beautiful!!! Got this piece in grenadine for Christmas from my wonderful husband and just love it. My go to for smaller casseroles and meatloaf. Staub is a dream come true for anyone who loves cast iron cooking, but not the hassle of cast iron. Too beautiful to put away, leave it out for all to enjoy. 10" x 8" across the top. 3.75 deep. 6" x 4.5 inside bottom. 12" x 8" x 7.75" with handles and lid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Collectors piece I have the Staub pumpkin and couldn't resist getting this gorgeous tomato. It really looks the amazing heirloom tomatoes I find at the farmers market. I use this for summer ratatoulile and for cold gazpacho. We always think of Staub pots for heat retention, but they are equally amazing at keeping things chilled!! this is a beautiful piece to add to your collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This beautiful Staub piece is yet another that is almost too beautiful to actually use. It is great as a decoration piece or for making a delicious homemade tomato soup! The classic grenadine color stays beautiful for a long time and is perfect not only for cooking but for presentation at the table as well. The copper stem handle makes the lid super easy to lift and reveal the signature Staub nonstick enameled cast iron coating on the inside.

I just got my tomato cocotte and baked a chicken at 425 for 30 minutes and reduced temp to 375 for 1 1/2 hours. Is it my imagination or could the red color finish have gotten a bit darker? Is it possible?

Asked by: bekki
I experience the same thing with mine when baking bread in it at much higher temperatures. It always goes back to the "lighter/brighter" red.
