J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 5-inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from My favorite knife I use a 7-inch santoku almost exclusively. I cut a lot of vegetables and prep a lot of chicken, fish and seafood, and this shape and size handles it all easily. From butternut squash to prawns, I can get almost everything done with this knife. This handsome line of Forged Premio knives is forged from German steel and made to very exacting standards. The fine edge blades made from high quality stainless steel can take and hold an edge ensuring years and years of enjoyable use. Hone them regularly. The full tang blade runs through the integrated bolster and triple riveted handle for maximum stability and durability. Dishwasher safe, but I always hand wash my knives. I like them to look new and dishwashing detergents are very hard on knives.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like the smaller santoku sometimes, just feels very comfortable in my hand and I like the shorter blade for certain tasks. The santoku is one of my favorite knives and I use it as much as I use a chef knife. The santoku can be used on meat, poultry and vegetables and the grantons (hollow edge) keep the food from sticking to the blade. Great value on this santoku if you do not own one yet, you should!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A value brand,! A great knife! This is a value brand knife, Forged Premio is durable, comfortable in my hand, a forged blade resilient to rusting and corrosion and sharp knife. With proper care, you'll enjoy this knife for life. Santoku is Asian style, perfect for chopping and slicing meat, vegetables and fruits. Hollow edge makes it more easier to separate steel and food, it is less messy and it is dishwasher safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around knife I love using this knife because it is very comfortable to use because the handle is curved to fit into my hand well and the blade is so sharp that it can get through anything I try to cut. I love the classic black and metal design and the ovals on the side make it so that the food doesn't stick to the sides of the knife while I'm cutting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great Santoku knife! I love the shape of the handle, so comfortable and the blade hits the cutting board with a flat long area so you can cut piles of herbs so easily. I know tht it is perfect for chopping but until I tried a few different things I had no idea how versatile this style knife is. its a great deal on a forged knife in a profile I did not already have!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a nice value priced santoku that has a forged bolster so it feels sturdy and strong while chopping, mincing and slicing. The hollow air pockets on the edge are designed to help food release from the blade as you slice. Made from high quality stainless steel you will find this knife is corrosion resistant and retains a nice sharp cutting edge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good knife at a good value. I picked this one up as stocking stuffers for the young adults in our family. It is such a great deal and value wise, you are getting German steel and the 3 rivet handle. The Santoku quickly becomes one of the most used knives in the kitchen and years later, they are all loving the knife and still using it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Santoku is a good all-around knife for all those chopped veggies - mirepoix, peppers, squash, eggplant and even potatoes! Nice to know the veggies will not stick, so no need to wipe them off the blade with your fingers! The 5" is sometimes easier and lighter to handle than the 7", or for smaller hands. Great knife for the price!

Bed Bath And Beyond has a "forged elite" knife which looks similar to this. Are they they same blade just a different handle? Also, what is the hardness of this bladfe?

Asked by: benjedi420vt
The only difference between this style and Forged Elite is the handle. All HI knives are 55-58 HRC.

What is the best way to sharpen this knife?

Asked by: Christinez
We recommend honing between uses with the steel/rod included in most sets. For more effective sharpening, we suggest using a handheld sharpener or stone as needed. What is the difference between this knife (the J.A. Henckels Forged Premio 7" Hollow Edge Santoku Knife and the J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 7" Hollow Edge Santoku Knife. They are both the same price.

Asked by: Louann
Both knives are very similar. They are both forged from the same steel and have an almost identical blade shape. The main difference is the handle. It really comes down to preference, whichever handle design you think would be more comfortable or suit your style better.
