Some improvements could be made
This is a beautiful knife set with great feel and balance. I was a little disappointed when it arrived and the stainless steel block had a few blemishes. Then, when I put the knives in their respective spots the serrated utility knife has a lot of wiggle room in its slot causing it to look like it’s drooping down while the prep knife seats so snugly that it causes it to raise up the handle. The overall aesthetic effect is that these two knives are the only two not aligned in the block which is not visually pleasing to me. I know this is picky, but these are J.A. Henckles and I expected perfection in every aspect.
That being said, they are great to use.

Expected more...
Set arrived quickly and without damage to the box. After opening, I started to put the knives in there respective slots. I noticed one was blocked. It was a chunk of wood that split from when they screwed on the faceplate to the block. Overall not a huge deal (I fixed it myself) but I expected better quality control for not only the price I paid but the company who makes these knives. Attached are some pictures to portray what my issue was. After fixing the block, I had no issues. The knives themselves are sharp and durable. When used appropriately they should last for many years. I do appreciate the self sharpening aspect to this set. Overall I would recommend this product, perhaps I just received the one off dud.

Best knives I’ve ever owned!
I received this set for Christmas from my wife. I love the quality of the construction and the weight of the knives and the quality and aesthetics of the block. while the block itself is much larger than what I had previously and will take some rearranging of the counter to create a good workspace, I think I will be very pleased with the outcome. It will take some getting used to not automatically reaching for the steel when I get out a knife, but I assume that the self-sharpening feature on the block will help to maintain the tang. So far I believe that this is the best set of knives I’ve owned and hope that I will get many years of good use from them!

Beautiful, solid knife set
The knife set arrived sooner than expected. The knives themselves are beautiful. I haven't had a chance yet to use them all but so far my husband and I are very happy with the set. The knives are very hefty and solid. The block they are stored in is a lot longer than expected but it looks very nice even though I had to move it to a new location so it would fit on the counter. Looking forward to the self-sharpening aspect once we use them enough to wear them down. Overall we are extremely happy with the set we purchased. Highly recommend trying them for yourselves.

Unboxing first take
Really like the finish, look, and style. Quality knives with good weight balancing on most knifes (boning knife felt disproportionately weighted and awkward to hold). Grip for the ergonomics of holding and finger placement could be better but not too noticeable at first glance. Wished the scissors were detachable and the block wasn't so big but to be expected from a 24pc set and the slanted block makes for easy in/out. Labeled slots make for easy choice. Overall great set for the deal i got it for (blackfriday) but probably wouldn't pay retail. Some tiny rust blemishes on 4 or 5 knives which i wasn't happy with but should resolve itself after a few uses.

Elegant and Useful
As someone who's worked in the restaurant industry for a long time, I take a great deal of pride in cooking at home. Part of that is excellent tools. This set has every knife for any occasion, no matter if I'm carving a ham, filleting a fish, or even just making a plate of snacks.
The weight of these knives is really pleasing to the hand. The handles aren't so large and thick as to be difficult to grab, nor are they awkwardly heavy. The grips are brushed metal, so even with wet hands, they are easily grasped. The self-sharpening block is a definite plus. The block itself looks elegant and classic, obviously quality.

Some issues
As with another reviewer some of the knives in the block don’t fit nice and symmetrical. The small serrated knife does not fit snug nor match its neighbor the prep knife so does not line up! The utility knife is the odd one out too the logo is not the Henckels man instead it says BSF! The stainless part of the block came with fingerprint like marks I was expecting a tear off protector. This is not what I expected from a brand that has this gravitas

Hello. I’m testing to find a mention of the grade/hardness of the carbon steel in this particular set. I see the mention of German / Carbon stainless steel but I can’t seem to find the grade. E.g. is it HRC 56-58*** or is it HRC 54-56***
Our HI knives are HRC 55-58. These are closer to 57.

Are these knives made of German steel if they are made in China? Some of the reviews on amazon said these knives were China metal and tend to rust after a couple of months. I just want to make sure that is not the case.
These knives are made of German steel, which is a trade name for carbon steel. Carbon is added for hardness and edge retention but can leave the knives susceptible to rusting if not cared for properly. To prevent rusting, we recommend hand washing and promptly and thoroughly drying the knives before storage. If you have to use the dishwasher, we recommend using the dry cycle and removing the knives immediately.

This may be the first time, this has been asked, but How do I know which knife goes where? The block is labeled but the knives are not. Obviously I can figure out the obvious steak knives, but this is my first really nice set...
Some of the knives will have the type on the information on the blade. Some you can tell by the size and shape. You know that the serrated knives do not go into the sharpening slots.
