Excellent knife set, EXCEPT:............
Steak knives are not forged but stamped! Too costly to place in a set such as this. You find that out in the small print. The steak knives are not made in Spain but Thailand. Maybe a bit less misleading advertising on these sets would be more in line.

Wonderful!
My husband gave me these knives for my birthday and I love them. Everything says quality and they cut through food like butter! I really like the knife block too, it is attractive and a compact size with room for new additions.

All I need
I purchased this set because I wanted well priced German block set with steak knives. This set fits the bill! The assortment of knives was very important because I cook almost every night. I also wanted a set that came with steak knives so everything can be stored in one spot. This block is perfect!
The knives have a traditional look with 3 rivets and a full bolster. They are made from high carbon stainless steel which makes them durable and high quality. The edges stay sharp, and the block comes with a honing steel which is essential for good edge maintenance. Saved a ton of money purchasing the block rather than buying the knives individually. These knives will last a long time and worth the one time investment.

Best set I've ever had
Great set of knives. With a lifetime warranty! Looks beautiful too. The block is a soft wood so it already has a nick in it. Overall very pleased. I may need a lesson as to which knife is for what use. The scissors are fabulous.

Great Assortment
The Classic set is as good of a knife block you can get without paying for the premium top line knives. I really like that this set comes with a carving knife, which is not very common in sets. That’s really nice to have for carving anything from turkeys to a weeknight steak. I would definitely get this for friends and family looking for a new set.

Incredible Knives, Incredible Value
You can't beat the quality of these knives especially at the price. They have all the quality features of far more expensive knives, including 3 rivets, great balance and incredibly sharp blades. You get a knife for virtually every kitchen task. The block is beautiful and compact so it doesn't take up too much room on your counter.

Classic look......amazing value
This is a complete great set. The chefs knife cuts like a dream and the serrated knife makes nice thin slices of my tomatoes. I like how it comes with a carving knife and fork. Usually these are add on items. I like how it is the German steel. That speaks quality to me. The classic design stands up with any quality knife around.

I just received this set for Christmas, and I went to use them and they do not seem sharp. Should I have them professionally sharpened? are they not meant to be sharp fresh out of the box?
Your cutlery should be sharp right out of the box, but the blades will require regular maintenance to hold the edge. What knives does Henckels make that are made in Germany?
All current J.A. Henckels International styles are made of German steel in China, except the Classic line, which is made in Spain. Our Zwilling/Twin knives are made in Germany.

All the pieces are made in Spain?
Their website claims they are made in Spain. However, the steak knives have Thailand stamped on them. Macy’s website claims the samething. As you can see no one from Zwilling has responded to my question or to your question. Seems kind of shady.

I am debating between this set and ZWILLING J.A. Henckels TWIN Gourmet 18-pc Knife Block Set. I am finding it hard to decided, one is 'twin' series and this one, especially since one is 'forged' and the other is 'stamped' Please help me decide!
Both the Classic and TWIN Gourmet are made in Spain, and as you mention, the Classic is forged and the TWIN Gourmet is stamped. Forged knives are heftier and have a true bolster where the handle meets the blade, this provides weight and balance. Stamped knives are thinner and lighter, and therefore more nimble. It really comes down to personal preference as to which is better.
The other main difference between the two series is the steel used. The TWIN Gourmet series uses our proprietary ZWILLING Special Formula Steel, the same steel used in most of our German-made knives. This is the only series made outside of Germany that uses this steel. The Classic series uses German high carbon steel, however it is not the same as our Special Formula steel.
Both series are great choices, both sets contain all the knives you will need for almost any cooking situation you would encounter day-to-day. The decision really comes down to whether you prefer a heavier, classic forged knife, or a lighter stamped knife.
