How to recognize good flatware
The quality of flatware depends essentially on the materials used.
Material
The material data provides information as to the quality of the raw material. ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS uses 18/10 chrome nickel steel for most of its flatware.
The thickness of raw material
The gauge or thickness of good-quality flatware should be at least 2.5 mm (spoons and forks).
Precise workmanship
The surface of top-quality flatware is either well polished or matt-finished without any pores. Edges are smooth and free of scratches or scoring. No burrs are evident between the prongs of the forks; the spoon’s bowl and the fork’s rim have no sharp edges.
Sharp knife blade
Knife blades are finely ground with a clean serrated edge.
Quality
Top-quality flatware has the manufacturer’s name stamped on the back of each item. Good raw material and precise manufacturing guarantee high quality.
