How to recognise a good pair of scissors?

Workmanship, attributes, quality

A good pair of scissors should cut easily and retain its cutting performance for a long period of time. Scissors made by ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS meet these criteria without reservation. High-quality scissors bear the following characteristic features.

1. The finish

A good pair of scissors has a smooth, neatly ground, brushed or polished surface. The care devoted to the grinding process allows conclusions towards the whole manufacturing process.

2. The form

The points must fit well when closed so that it is possible to cut with the tips only. Well fitted blades lie on top of each other when closed.

3. Closing force

A pair of scissors should open and close easily. The necessary closing effort must be even. This applies to the whole length of the cutting edge when the scissors are wide open until they are completely closed.

4. Honing finish

The cut of high-quality scissors must be soft and even. This is achieved by ensuring that the scissors blades are honed well.

5. The eye rings

The eye rings are the working surface for the fingers. They must be formed so that the hand never tires or hurts. The inside of the eye rings must be even and free of burrs.

6. The screw

High-quality scissors must be adjustable. Scissors by ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS are thus assembled with a screw. Because a specialist is able to unscrew the scissors and regrind and readjust them, these scissors can be serviced and are thus longlasting.
