Quality starts with the material

The quality of the steel has a crucial influence on the quality of the scissors or shears. It is fundamental for the efficiency and durability of the product. Steel alloys of the highest quality are the basic material for scissors and shears made by
ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS. This quality steel provides the basis for exceptional cutting performance.

Depending on the manufacturing process two different qualities of steel are used by ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS:

a) high-grade stainless for stamped household shears
b) carbon steel for forged scissors and shears.

a) Scissors and shears made of high-grade stainless steel

The majority of scissors and shears by ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS are made of high-grade stainless steel. It is particularly recommended for scissors that come into contact with moisture because the steel will not rust in damp air.

b) Carbon steel (ordinary steel)

Carbon steel is the oldest type of steel and can be hardened up to 53° Rockwell. Because carbon steel can become rusty and stained, most ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS scissors and shears made of this material are galvanised with a surface protection (nickel coating). The general rule also applies to scissors and shears: the higher the carbon content, the better the strength that can be achieved. This is vital for the cutting ability of the cutting edge
