Grinding scissors and shears is an elaborate manufacturing process which is either carried out by hand (eye rings and handles cannot be worked by machines) or by precision machinery. ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS pays particular attention to the interaction of crescent, draw and twist. They are decisive in ensuring that the blades meet only at a single point along the length of the blades and that the material being cut is cleanly held and severed.
The manufacturing steps are:
The manufacturing steps are:
eye rings and shank: The inner and outer sides are dry-rough and dry-fine ground.
joint area and blade edges: rough and fine grinding, vibratory grinding, nickel plating.
grinding between, cutting edge and inner side: The grinding must follow the twist or turn of the blade inner side.
In order to protect the surface against corrosion, scissors and shears made of normal steel are nickel-plated.
Subsequently the scissors or shears blade are ground on the inner side. Scissors and shears made of stainless steel are polished or brushed.
During final assembly the shears blades are screwed together. The cutting performance and the easy closing action along the whole length of the scissors or shears are determined at this stage. Our fitters and controllers are highly skilled specialists. The following steps are carried out during assembly:
The following steps are carried out during assembly:
honing the cutting edges on the oilstone.
screwing the shears blades together and pointing, i.e. straightening.
final inspection: testing the cutting property and action of the scissors or shears.
At ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS particularly stringent quality control is carried out at all stages of production.
