What you should know about flatware

Terminology, Material, Production, Design and Quality

All personal care instruments are specially formed and processed for their intended use. Only then can they fulfil their specific purpose.

1. The raw material

Good personal care instruments such as cleaners, nail scrapers, nail and corn knives are manufactured from the highest quality steel. ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS makes exclusive use of stainless, high-grade steel for the working parts of its instruments.

2. The finish

The upper part of the instruments has a smoothly ground, polished or brushed surface. The blades are sharply ground. All plastic handles are smooth with no surface seams thus guaranteeing finger-friendly work.

3. The finish of nail and corn scissors

The points of the scissors must fit together well when closed. Cutting ability right up to the point is absolutely essential. The blades must have an even, light and easy closing action

4. The finish of nail and cuticle nippers

The cutting edges of a nipper must exactly press against each other. They first meet at the point and clip the nail or skin away when further pressed together. The spring which opens the nipper must be fixed properly and should not get in the way when used.

5. The finish of non-cutting instruments

The selection of top class material as well as clean surface and edge processing are hallmarks of carefully manufactured instruments. They are essential for proper functioning and are specially formed and processed for each respective intended use.
